Submitting my Work, a Short History
In the olden times, we typed our work and put stamps on envelopes.
I started submitting my writing to journals (for real this time, in earnest) again in 2016. The process is almost unrecognizable from the submitting process the first time around, with the self-addressed, stamped envelopes included in every typewritten manuscript I sent out back when I pursued life-as-writer in the late 1990s. (I celebrate 34 years as a working mother this fall. An empty nest has returned writing time to my life.)
Submittable was a revelation in this return to the submitting life. Submittable has never been a terrific place to identify opportunities, however, so I’ve added Chill Subs and an active subscription list, as well as another spreadsheet to my process of submitting deadlines and openings.
